Arrive Wellington
Welcome to Wellington, today is at your leisure. After checking into our hotel, you can explore some of the highlights of the fashionista city. A spot of shopping with some of New Zealand’s top fashion labels, or visit Te Papa, the New Zealand National Museum.
Accommodation: Park Hotel — 1 night
Remutaka Cycle Trail (40km)
Depart your Wellington hotel at 9.15 am – You will be shuttled to the start of the Remutaka Incline (we’ll start at Maymourn Station) where you will be fitted with bikes, lunches and all other necessities before enjoying a self guided day on the rail trail. Our destination is Featherston – approximately 40 km into the future.
You will be met at Featherston and transferred to Martinborough for your first night at the Martinborough Hotel.
Accommodation: Martinborough Hotel — 3 nights
Guided Wine and Vine (Cycle 10-50km and relax)
We set off at 11am for a leisurely day among the vines in Martinborough Wine Village. Visiting three diverse cellar doors and an olive grove with the most experienced guides in town. We will enjoy some of the best Pinot Noir in the world and a delicious vineyard lunch.
Palliser Bay Explorer Tour (Walking up to 3 hours and Minibus)
Setting off at around 10.45 we head out to the coast, visiting Palliser Bay which has a unique place in New Zealand’s history. It is known as the landing place of the Pacific Explorer ‘Kupe’ and one of the earliest pastoral farming areas in New Zealand. We will walk to the Putangirua Pinnacles, visit Ngawi Fishing Village and climb 250 steps to the Southernmost lighthouse in New Zealand’s North Island. Then after we visit the region’s largest fur seal colony, making this a day you will always remember.
Complete the Remutaka Cycle Trail
Taking the hard road around the Wild South Coast or the High Road along the Hutt River, this day includes something for everyone!
Ocean Beach to Orongorongo or Petone is one wild ride, suitable for confident and physically able cyclists. Ride between 18 and 50 kilometres (we will discuss the best option for you). This is a demanding but exhilarating day where you will pass beautiful farms and be able walk in the shoes of colonial settlers.
Or, for the less confident rider;
Kaitoke to Petone is a beautiful 40 kilometer ride through the Hutt Valley on a well groomed riverside trail. There are lots of picnic opportunities and you will have plenty of time to visit The Dowse Gallery and Museum or perhaps tackle the Te Whiti Riser at the end of the day. Perhaps a stroll along Petone Foreshore or a ride out to meet others who have ridden the Wild Coast.
